Being that we spend 227,468 hours* tucked in bed it’s only fitting that we understand how to dress up the bedroom. Beyond our time spent sleeping, we also find ourselves utilizing the bedroom as a personal sanctuary away. Follow the tips below and empower your room with a makeover.

Pile on the pillows. Just because you only sleep with one pillow beneath your head does not mean your bed is limited to just that. Adding extra pillows will create a cozy ambience and focal point. For an extra bonus, choose pillows that also offer comfort. You will be so pleased when you snuggle up to the perfect goose feather pillow before entering your dreams.

Curtains. Adding curtains as a window treatment will create the illusion of a larger space. Curtains of similar color to the wall specifically make a room appear larger. Set draperies higher than the window to enhance the overall grandness of the room and choose long curtains to add length to the window.

Artwork. Your bedroom should be an expression of yourself. Add a few quirky pieces that describe your personality in a nutshell. Decorating your space doesn’t need to be an expensive visit to an art gallery either. You will find the most unique artwork at markets, thrift stores or even through your own DIY creation.

Look down. Don’t forget about your floor! Rugs offer more than visual appeal. Placing a rug down spares your feet of a cold embrace with the morning floor. Not to mention, a heavy rug pads the ground creating a sound-proof effect if there is a story beneath your bedroom.

Accent pieces. When adding pillows, curtains, artwork or a rug to your space make a statement. Add textures, patterns and bright colors – don’t be shy to gravitate away from the norm!

Now go ahead and dress up the bedroom and cultivate a magical space to spend your sleeping (and waking) hours in.
